I developed this pop-up exhibition as part of my ongoing Visiting Professor of Creative Practice role at Newcastle Univeristy. For the initial exhibition I researched over fifty arts and science research projects and selected twelve initiatives led by a wide range of Newcastle University academics and departments which creatively addressed climate change from a range of different perspectives and research methodologies.
The exhibition was shown in five different buildings coinciding with the UK hosting the COP26 conference in Glasgow in 2021 and then travelled to Pittsburg University and was distributed in a newspaper format (see PDF below).
The multifunctional pop-up exhibition system and graphic layout was developed by Founded Design and is formed from 10 oak grid screens produced from recycled oak by furniture maker Nick James.
Since this initial exhibition I have curated a further two pop-up exhibitions across the university focussed on the representation of Black people in children’s books from abolition onward, based on the research of Newcastle University Professor Karen Sands-O’Connor, and the current pop-up exhibition celebrates the experience of international students in Newcastle.
