I organised the artists callout and commissioned glass sculpture, stained glass and suspended dichroic glass installations for the new National Glass Centre which opened in Sunderland in 1998. The building was located in Sunderland due to the city's history of glass making dating back to the middle ages. The building also became home to Sunderland Universities Glass and Ceramics course which had trained a generation of glass artists based in the North East.
Whilst working at Arts Council/Commissions North between 1999 and 2013 I brokered many new commissions for artists working with glass in new buildings and heritage projects across the North East and was able to provide early stage design funding which saw opportunities for contemporary architectural glass commissioning to flourish for a decade.
