I worked with BIMM University in Brighton to do a student call-out for proposals in response to our brief of Brighton in Film. Three artists, Maya Segall, Akira-Kai Kitazono and Daniel Shadrack Booroff, were then commissioned to make work for Alumno's new Revilious House and Maya Segall's three-part work was sited in the atrium. Her work collaged 'love' images from well known films which have been filmed in Brighton and were presented as film stills on backlit lightbox's
Maya Said: My artwork is an exploration of the history of filmmaking in Brighton . I have displayed chronologically a collection of stills from the ‘LOVE’ scenes of films shot in Brighton from the 1940’s to 2022. I wouldn’t be able to make these moving image stills without collaborating with BFI National Archive and Iain Neary’s skillfull editing talent. From Richard Attenborough to Sid James to Nick Cave, observing this triptych collection will hopefully not only inspire peoples choices in future filmmaking, but also strike a conversation about; “Which one of these films should we watch next?’
