Sculpture in the Park was a project I brokered with Durham County Council during my time running Commissions North at Arts Council North East. The project presented contemporary sculpture in the grounds of the former DLI Museums with the aim of engaging new audiences through family sculpture days, tours and talks by artists. The annual shows started in 2003 and each developed a different theme curated by Ann Elliot. The 2005 show brought together artists who had taken part in 25 years of the British Art Show.

Sculpture in the Park's success led the Council to explore the potential for a major public art commission where I organised the artists design competition which led to the proposal for ‘The Durham Skybowl’ by artist Pal Svensson.
