As part of its ongoing commitment to the communities living adjacent to its projects, I commissioned a range of artists projects for Alumno's new building in Leeds. The atrium features a large frieze based on an abstract painting by celebrated painter Terry Frost, after which the building is named, who transformed arts teaching at Leeds College of Art in the 1950s
I wanted to ensure there was strong connection with Terry Frosts work and the frieze is an architectural scale transcription of Frosts original painting Red, green and black 1967/8 which is held nearby in the Leeds University Art Collection
Inspired by Frost’s work, we commissioned Yorkshire-based poet Zaffar Kunial to develop a poem inspired by the artworks called 'Frosts Sun' displayed on the ground floor windows at the building’s entrance.
At the opening event, Frost’s sons Anthony and Stephen unveiled a plaque in honour of their late father.
