I was introduced to Guangzhou based artist Qi Yafeng by my colleague YeZi, the artist had established a strong reputation for public sculpture across China but had not and a solo gallery show. I was invited to curate his exhibition at Today Art Museum in Beijing and developed plans to foreground the artists technical skills which involves creating elaborate hand-hammered forms in stainless steel. The exhibition included larger works within and outside of the gallery along with drawings, studio photography, work in progress plaster casts and a soundscape recorded in the artists studio creating a 'workshop. atmosphere within the gallery.
The following year the artist brought his larger works to the grounds of Cheeseburn Sculpture in Northumberland and I curated a second exhibition of his smaller works and specially commissioned performance film from his workshop near Hong Kong.
